I drink this glass of blood to abortion. It's Orwellian:
Nobody "likes" abortion. Nobody, not even the most ardent defender of choice, disputes the sacredness of human life.
Human life is sacred. And dismembering the most vulnerable people is AOK with Pitts. In the same sentence. Uh, yeah...
But we balance that against the conviction that there is something totalitarian in the idea the state can force a woman to bear a child that she, for whatever reason -- incest, rape, illness, deformity or grinding poverty -- does not wish to bear.
So what's different when a woman doesn't want to raise her 2-week old baby because of things like grinding poverty? What makes murder OK before birth?
